black-capped chickadee

I thought it was about time that I posted something other than a watercolor painting. I picked this project from a book that I bought way back in 1998–Painting Garden Birds with Sherry Nelson–but never used. The book offers a series of lessons in oil painting but since I no longer have any oil paints laying around the house, I gave it a try with colored pencils. Prisma Color and Verithin colored pencils on gray Canson Mi-Teintes pastel paper.

  1. Thank you, Tim. Drawing was my first love. I was never much interested in painting–until I started following several watercolor artists on Illustration Friday. Then I was hooked and had to try it myself. I created this blog to track my progress, but it’s grown to include all my creative endeavors. Based on the feedback to this drawing, I think I need to set aside some time now and then and create and share more colored pencil paintings, but they take so much time to create!
